The Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers are missing their top defensive players because of injuries, but which team is the most damaged? Brian Urlacher, who’s out for the season with a dislocated right wrist, has been an ironman at middle linebacker in Chicago and started every game since 2005… For Troy Polamalu and the Steelers, it’s a different story.
Terms weren’t disclosed, but The Associated Press reported that McGee received a four-year deal, according to a person who’s familar with the contract and spoke on the condition of anonymity. “You definitely feel good about your long-term security when you can get a deal like this done but more importantly, it allows you to focus more on football,†McGee told the Bills’ Web site.

Chiefs QB Matt Cassel hasn’t been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Raiders but he hasn’t been ruled as “in†either.. Cassel was limited in practice Thursday for the second consecutive day but there’s still no indication from Chiefs coach Todd Haley on the quarterback’s status… Cassel again moved around in practice with a brace on his left knee, but Haley wasn’t in a rush to quantify the QB’s status until seeing more in practice Friday. Cassel was ruled out of the Chiefs’ Week 1 game just before kickoff, but Haley would like to have the issue settled sooner this time  possibly by tomorrow
In Monday night’s game between the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders, the Raiders faced a third-and-5 from the Chargers’ 19 with 0:50 remaining in the second quarter. The ruling on the field was a completed pass for a touchdown…. The instant replay assistant stopped the game for an instant replay review to determine if the receiver maintained possession of the ball after he hit the ground… Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 1 of the NFL Rule Book (page 51) states that “if a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact with an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone..
JACKSONVILLE  The Jaguars’ home opener will be blacked out on local television for the third time in the last six years… Because of the slumping economy and last season’s 5-11 record, the Jaguars saw this one coming months ago… The Jaguars lost 17,000 season-ticket holders after last season and that could lead to local television blackouts for every home game in 2009… “We can’t do anything about the economy and tickets; ” running back Maurice Jones-Drew said… “All we can do is win games and that’s what we’re going to do. Three Cardinals wide receivers Anquan Boldin, Steve Breaston and Early Doucet are listed as questionable on the team’s final injury report, making a rebound from Week 1’s 20-16 loss to the 49ers even more of a challenge… Breaston was a late scratch in Week 1 because of a knee injury, and Boldin was rather unproductive (two receptions for 19 yards) while attempting to play through a hamstring injury… The Jaguars enter Sunday’s game relatively healthy, but they will be without CB Brian Witherspoon (hamstring).
